A lookalike of my domain is registered. Should I panic?
No, assess. Some lookalikes are unrelated businesses or old parked domains. The concern is a fresh registration mimicking your brand, especially one with mail records. Send us the result and we will check what it is actually doing.
How does this check work?
Your browser generates the common misspellings, character swaps and ending variants of your domain, then looks each one up in public DNS. A domain with name servers is registered by someone. Nothing about your check reaches us unless you submit the form.
Can you find out who registered a lookalike?
Sometimes. Public registration records are often privacy-shielded, but hosting, mail records and content usually tell the story. We document what we find so you can act on it.
Can a registered lookalike be taken down?
If it is being used for fraud or trademark abuse, there are real paths: registrar abuse reports, hosting complaints and formal disputes. We help with the technical evidence, and coordinate with your attorney for the legal routes.
Should I buy the lookalike domains myself?
The most convincing one or two, often yes, since registration costs a few dollars a year. Buying every variant is unnecessary. We will tell you honestly which are worth it.
Does DMARC stop lookalike attacks?
DMARC stops forgery of your exact domain, which is essential, but a lookalike is a different domain the attacker really owns. Beating those takes the combination: defensive registrations, filtering and trained eyes.
What if the check finds nothing?
Great position. Consider defensively registering the one or two most convincing variants anyway, keep DMARC enforced on your real domain, and re-check occasionally, since new registrations happen daily.
